Hello everybody,
I am finally getting the hang of this Spanish keyboard so that is good. This week has been pretty good, not too eventful though. Let's start off with how the food is going. The food is still not to good! But I am excited because I only have until Sunday night until I am free. I leave Monday morning at 2 AM for the airport. The plane doesn't leave until like 6 I think. We have to leave super early because its like the Virgin Mary Celebration tomorrow, so a bunch of people walk on their knees to a big cathedral or something in the heart of Mexico City so we aren't allowed to drive on those streets. Another fun thing that I learned this week about Mexico is that we are not allowed to go knocking on doors and are not suppose to street contact that much, so all of our investigators will be referrals from people--so that's fun. I also learned that lunch is at 2 and that's the only time members feed us. We then have dinner once we get back to our apartment, so I'll be making a lot of Kraft Mac n Cheese, and also a lot of peanut butter and jelly--so I am good with that! Every missionary staying in Mexico was given a filtered water bottle because the water is so bad down here. So hey--I got a free water bottle. However, the water tastes terrible coming out of it. I am most excited to get myself a street taco when I get down there because they look really good (and really unsanitary)--so that's good. I am also hoping for a good trainer that either knows no English or knows it but only talks Spanish unless to answer one of my grammatical or definition of a word questions.
This week in the CCM started off with our sister district 15D leaving--so that blows. So we don't have anybody to play volleyball or talk with. However, the Hermanas are going to the same mission as Corey Ballard--so that's awesome! Tell Jim to tell Corey to look out for 'em--they is pretty cool. On the topic of volleyball--I finally perfected my spike (with the timing and aim) so that feels good. My jump serve is pretty legendary so watch out U.S.A Men's beach volleyball team. No serious injuries this week though so that's no fun. Yesterday we had a pretty competitive 3 v 3 beach volley tournament with a bunch of the 'week sixers'--my team did pretty well so that's good. They also opened up the plaza in the middle of the CCM after it had been closed since June. As a result, I am just soaking up the sun. Grant also left to Utah this week. He was way excited. He is excited because the food blows and everyone is just craving some nice American fast food right now.
Also I figured out that Elder Browning's sister actually served with Albert.
Spanish has been coming along. We are learning subjectives for the rest of the time. Its confusing and so weird. It does not make any sense, but hey Spanish is one of the 'languages of love'--so watch out. I learned that people from Veracruz speak muy rapido and they do not finish any of their words at all. Yeah, I do not know or understand Spanish already when people are talking really slow and I'm going to a place where people have a young Tanner Hall Speech Disorder so this shall be fun.
The Christmas devotional was amazing this week and you guys should all go watch it if you haven't. I will not tell you about it because I do not want to spoil the fun. It was really good though and you will all feel the Spirit when you watch it. Also, if you haven't seen the new Mormon Message that was from Uchdorfs, or however you spell it, you should watch that as well--it is pretty darn good. You will learn a lot from it.
I have been reading the New Testament and finished Matthew and Mark in one day. I have learned a lot from it such as--did you know Mary (not his mom) had 7 evil spirits cast out of her by Jesus? So that's cool. I also learned my new favorite New Testament Story. So a guy had a bunch of evil spirits in Him and he came to Jesus to rid him of them. So He did (according to the guy's faith), and to prevent them from ever going into the man again he cast them into some pigs and then had the pigs pretty much jump off a cliff and die.
This week the CCM has come down so incredibly hard on people. It all started out with a district, (not gonna say what district--it just wasn't mine)--so that's good, had a toga party. And they were playing music that was not church (or really appropriate at all) and they also weren't wearing their garments. On top of all of that, they had a bunch of other districts over as well. So that district all left for the field so they didn't get in any trouble. But the new rule is here that if you are caught even knocking on someone else's door (or at their door), you will be immediately sent home from your mission.
That's really all I can think of that happened this week. I will email next week. I am not sure what day I will be emailing them on though so just be prepared.
Love Elder Tanner Rockwell Hall.
